      McWilliams Hanwood Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
The fruit-forward flavors you would expect from an Australian Cabernet Sauvignon with wonderful structure and balance.   Currants, blackberries, and smoke carry across the palate, as the finish is brought on by toasted vanilla flavors and a hint of tobacco.   The ample acidity is reflected as a boysenberry note.   The sultry tannins balance well with the acid and fruit.   Perfect with grilled buggers or a steak.
Retail price $12.   Tasted October 8, 2003.   Sulty, ripe, and interesting, earning two out of three .

      McWilliams Hanwood Shiraz 2001
A very impressive Australian Shiraz with great acid structure.   The color is inky, the palate is jammy with flavors or raspberries and blackberries, with hints of eucalyptus and mint.   The finish carries through with a juicy flavor that indicates good acid content.   This is a well made bottle of wine.   Shirazes of this quality are usually pricier.
Retail price $12.   Tasted October 8, 2003.   Quality at a great price earning three out of three .

      McWilliams Hanwood Merlot 2002
The fruit-forward style of this wine is greeted with a good dose of acid.   The fruit is ripe with black cherries and has smooth cocoa and toffee notes on the mid-palate.   The finish sweeps in with toasted vanilla.   A "New World" Merlot with juicy fruit flavors with enough acidity to get your full attention before it passes over your tongue.
Retail price $12.   Tasted October 8, 2003.   Excellent example of a "New World" Merlot offering structure, earning one dazzling A single star would be a mid-eighties score on the 1-100 scale..

      McWilliams Hanwood Chardonnay 2001
This is "New World" meets "Old World" in flavors and style.   The nose is rich, floral and a touch toasted.   On the palate the fruit flavors are bright, more European style with lime zest and white peaches.   The finish turns up the tropical flavors and leaves with a sweep of butterscotch.   If you love "New World" chardonnays, this little gem is a pleasing intersection of traditional and "New World" styles, offering elegance and tropical fruit fun.
Retail price $12.   Tasted October 8, 2003.   Elegant and fun, this chardonnay earns two out of a possible three .

      Yalumba Anitique Tawny NV 375ml
There is a rich flavor of crushed nuts and dried fruit in the flavors of this stickie.   A canvas of dried apricots and cherries intermingles with caramel, toffee, and spice.   There is a touch of acidity and the balance proves for an enjoyable finish.   This is a favorite amoung dessert wines.   Elegant and fun, more tawny-like than many of it's peers.
Retail price $20.   Tasted October 4, 2003.   Inexpensive enough to be a frequent treat, quality enough to fool your friends, earning two out of three .
