Jasper Hill
      Best's 2002 Great Western Riesling  is an elegant, interesting riesling.   The nose is floral and the palate brings notes of pears, lemon zest, and minerals.   The acidity brings a welcome balance and the finish offeres a spicy white pepper zip.   An excellent effort by wine maker Viv Thompson.  
Retail price $16.   Tasted September 17, 2003.   Impressive, rich, and balanced earning two out of three .

      Best's 2000 Great Western Shiraz
The juice in this bottle comes from 150 years old shiraz vines in the Eastern province of Victoria.   Black pepper, clove, jammy flavors of plum, blackberries, and cherries, this shiraz is bursting with fruit and spice.   The use of oak is minimized to allow the fruit flavors to dominate the palate.
Retail price $30.   Tasted September 17, 2003.   Juicy, ripe, clean, a well made Aussie shiraz earning two out of three .

      Jasper Hill 2001 Georgia's Padlock Shiraz is climbing the ranks as one of Australias highly prized shirazs.   The nose is perfumed and the color is deep.   The flavors are a dense as they are interesting.   The fruit flavors on the palate are extremely ripe with juicy berries and plums.   The mid-palate and finish are sultry with lengthy licorice flavors being followed by notes of cardamom and allspice through the soft tannins.   If you collect or you love to splurge on great Australian Shirazs, this is a great find for you.   Retail price $65.   Tasted September 8, 2003.   One of the best in its class with three .
