Boeger Eldorado 2001 Barbera
Okay, lets get two things straight, if a wine is listed on here that means
we think it is worth buying and seeing for yourself.
Getting listed on this site means if we were scoring by
100 point scale you would at least be getting an 85 or better.
The other thing I want to say is that I generally don't like California barbera.
In my humble opinion, when they manage to be as interesting as an Italian barbera,
they are usually twice as much.
With that said . . . .
Boeger Eldorado 2001 Barbera is delightful.
It has a plumy nose and on the palate there are raspberry, hibiscus, and wild cherry notes.
The acidity is very Italian-like.
The structure of this wine is interesting, a touch chewy, and bursting with bright fruit flavors.
A perfect food wine created from Boeger's 15th vintage of barbera.
I've been told, because of their hot days and cool nights, the growers in the El Dorado
region are up-and-coming in the California wine scene.
Retail price $15. Tasted September 16, 2003. Quality and value earn this wine one .

Boeger El Dorado 2000 Merlot Reserve
comes from 20 year old vine.
The structure of this merlot a touch Bordeaux with its great acidity
and a touch "New World" with its fruit-forward style.
On the palate the wine has a great ripe black cherry note, with hints of vanilla and mint.
The acidity brings up the finish with notes of white pepper.
I'm very impressed with all the wines from Boeger and feel that they are all a great value for the money.
Retail price $16. Tasted September 16, 2003.
Ripe fruit and interesting structure earn this wine two out of three .

Boeger 1999 Meritage Reserve
has rich rasinesque flavors on the nose.
The palate is varied with flavors of ripe black fruit, mint, chocolate, and exotic spices of cardamom and clove.
The finish is smooth with hints of toasted caramel as the final note.
The tannins are silky and marry well with the exotic flavors on the mid-palate.
I found the price to be exceptional for the quality of fruit.
retail price $20. Tasted September 16, 2003.
Quality for price earn this wine two out of three .

Boeger El Dorado 2000 Zinfandel is a great example of
well made zinfandel at a modest price.
The nose has tobacco notes, while the palate is loaded with spicy flavors of
clove, plum, toasted vanilla, and white pepper.
The tannins compliment the juicy ripeness of the fruit.
The finish has a creamy toasted climax as the flavors softly fade.
Again, I find the price as exciting as the wine's ripeness, complexity, and quality.
Retail price $16. Tasted September 16, 2003. Another winner earning two out of three .

Boeger 2001 Walker Vineyard Late Harvest Zinfandel
Brings to mind pomegranate, dried hibiscus flowers, amd spicy notes of clove and
mace. The flavors are bright and the mouth-feel is lavish.
There is a little echo of mint on the mid-palate.
The finish is lingering and oh, so pleasurable.
The perfect compliment for chocolate cake.
Go ahead, I dare you, skip dinner and go right for the desert wine.

Earns two out of three for its lovely disposition .
