Wine of Week Archive 2010

Wine       Juno 2009 Rose, South Africa
Spring blossoms on the nose carry spicy tones. This pink is a real treat for the tongue. Zippy mouthfeel, the citrus acidity is an opposing facet to the flavors of honey, anise, and tangerine peel. The finish bursts with juicy ripe strawberries. A great starter for your next dinner party or a solid house wine for those moments when the fare demands pink.

Concannon 2008 Conservancy Chardonnay, Livermore Valley, California
Spicy aromas excite the senses and foretell of the complexity and opulence to come. Nectar-like, the mouth fills with ripe peach and pear tones. This white has a creamy undertone, spiced with flavors of caramel, allspice, nutmeg, vanilla, and macaroons. A distinct splash of tangerine on the mid-palate, leads to generous acidity and a lemon hard candy finish.

Miquel Torres Santa Digna 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, Chile
Blossom and fresh cut herbs aromas tickle the nose. Perfectly ripe peaches are spiced with a touch of citrus zest, tangerine, lime, and grapefruit on the palate. The wine shows flavors of lemongrass and ginger on the mid-palate. Intense, lingering in the mouth for a few seconds on the finish. A zesty, refreshing white, awash in mouthwatering acidity.

Columbia Crest 2007 Two Vines Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington
We drank this cabernet sauvignon on New Year Eve (along with a little bubbly of course). This little red really impressed us. Its complexity surpasses its price by at least double. A fabric of cassis and black cherry is splashed with vanilla, dark chocolate, licorice, allspice, lavender, and caramel. Rich and well balanced, with a bright acidity and soft grip. This might just be your next new house wine!

Solanera 2007 Vinas Viejas, Yecla, Spain
A dense red with planty of spice and polish. Flavors of raspberry, chocolate, cedar, cigarbox, licorice, and sandalwood create a smooth drink. The wine takes on a tobacco blossom and cookie dough mid-palate and finish the longer it breathes. The tannins are fine, but obvious. A blend of 65% monastrell, 20% cabernet sauvignon, and 15% garnacha.
