Chateau St. Jean 2004 Pinot Noir, Sonoma, California
When I tasted this pinot noir I was with Margo van Staaveren. She was amused that I was concentrating so hard on her wines. Believe me, there are so many nuance in these wines that you want to focus on the flavors. I guess that is why she was bestowed with a 'Wine of the Year.' This pinot noir is layered and interesting. Notes of mint, cola, and vanilla, are splashed across a wild cherry canvas. -BF $22

Wow! The color stole my attention as it tumbled into my glass. Deep, inky, and purple, this is a good sign the juice is going to be big. The grapes come from old vines and the wine is very intense.
